In this work, we chose to study one of the most famous sculptures of the ancient mexican society. It’s the giant monolith of volcanic stone showing the beheaded and dismembered goddess Coyolxauhqui found at the Great Temple of Mexico in 1978. After the description of the relief, we will analyse the destruction of the goddess in the light of myths before questioning these myths in the light of history. At the end of our inquiry and of the autopsy of the murder, we will be able to submit an hypothesis regarding the historical events the death of Coyolxauhqui could be connected with.
