The article deals with the current status of foreign language education of students of financial universities and focuses on its future development. Modern economic, social, political and professional changes taking place in Russia challenge students to develop their professionally oriented foreign language speech training. The author justifies the importance of the subject “Foreign Language” for students of non-linguistic specialties relying on the scientific research and own teaching experience. The concept of the “secondary linguistic identity” and the related features of the process of foreign language training are analyzed. Purpose. The article is devoted to the evaluation of the main components of foreign language education and ways of its development in a modern financial university. Methodology. The current status of foreign language education of students of non-linguistic specialties is justified on the ground of the scientific research and own teaching experience. Results. The results of the research can be used by the academic staff of the Foreign Languages Departments of financial universities to optimize the teaching process.
