Nuclear Activities and Policies of the Russia from the Cold War until Nowadays

The USSR successfully carried out the first atomic bomb test in 1949 shortly after the atomic bombing of Japan in 1945 at the behest of the US President Truman. After this first test of the USSR, a nuclear rivalry between the USSR and the USA has begun. In this context, why the Soviets who was in the nuclear race since the beginning of the Cold War wanted to have nuclear weapons, how they obtained these weapons and the results of having these weapons were studied firstly in this study. Within the scope of these questions, the nuclear activites and policies of the USSR were tried to be revealed. Then, the nuclear policies of Russia in the early years of its establishment after the end of the Cold War and dissolution of the USSR were examined, and the changing security and nuclear policies in the context of new security and military doctrines after Vladimir Putin came into power were discussed particularly.
