This article places emphasis, in Fray Luis de León’s first Ode («Vida retirada»), on the hidden path (vv. 3-4) and the poet’s garden (liras 9-12). The first represents the “mystical path” that leads to the union of the soul with God, a path that has not been followed by the author of the Ode. As regards the garden, it represents a metaphor of poetic creation: it represents the poetry written by Luis de León during his youth, in the spring of his poetic life.
