Quasicrystals possess long-range order but lack translational symmetry. Here, the authors use atomic manipulation and scanning tunnelling microscopy to assemble a Penrose tiling quasicrystal and observe that its electronic density of states has a quasiperiodic order, linked to the quasicrystal topology.
