Experience of distance teaching of pediatrics to the fourth year students in medical higher education institutions of Ukraine in the conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic
Abstract
The article deals with the experience of remote teaching of pediatrics to the fourth year medical students at the Department of Pediatrics 1 and Medical Genetics of Dnipropetrovsk Medical Academy in quarantine time due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The attention of educational institutions to distance learning has increased; due to the introduction of remote teaching it became possible to create educational and scientific sources that are several times greater than the capabilities of paper media. Clinical departments of medical universities have the opportunity to expand their experience in the application of the latest information technologies and for the first time to introduce the teaching of online clinical disciplines. The article describes the experience of preparing and conducting practical classes, teaching lecture material. The dynamics of changes in the load on teachers and students in the process of gaining distance learning experience is described. The stages of preparation of educational materials, tests and clinical tasks for students are described. Possibilities of using tests from KROK-2 base in the preparation of students for practical sessions are considered. Options for testing the knowledge obtained by students during preparation for practical classes are presented. The article examines in detail the possibilities of conducting practical classes and lecturing on various platforms presented on the Internet, the possibility of identifying students, as well as various forms of communication between student and teacher. Attention is also paid to the procedure and methods of accepting students’ classes, which were missed before the quarantine period. The Department of Pediatrics 1 and Medical Genetics also shares the experience of conducting methodological meetings of the department, student research group and educational activities that may also take place in the work of the department during quarantine measures in the COVID-19 pandemic.
