The relationship between hemodialysis adequacy and quality of life and spiritual wellbeing in hemodialysis patients
Abstract
Background and aims Hemodialysis is a factor that affects the quality of life and spiritual wellbeing in kidney patients. On the other hand, improving the adequacy of dialysis is the main factor for reducing complications and mortality in dialysis patients. This study was conducted to investigate the relationship between Hemodialysis adequacy and quality of life and spiritual wellbeing in hemodialysis patients. Methods: In this correlational - analytical study, 72 hemodialysis patients were selected using convenience sampling on the patients under treatment in Imam Hossein hospital in Shahroud, 2012. Data were collected using spiritual health and quality of life questionnaires. Laboratory parameters were used to assess the adequacy of dialysis. Results: The level of mental health (68.1%) and quality of life (86%) of the patients were in the moderate range. Also, the majority of adequacy of dialysis patients (65%>) was good. The dimensions of physical functioning, quality of life (P<0.05) and role limitation among life study aspects (P<0.05) showed a significant correlation with indices of dialysis adequacy. Moreover, Significant correlation between the existence of health (P<0.05) with adequacy of dialysis parameters were observed among life study aspects. Conclusion: The results of this study emphasized on the importance of the hemodialysis adequacy as variable affecting on spiritual well-being and QOL in hemodialysis patients. Therefore, intervention to improve dialysis adequacy to enhance the quality of life and spiritual well-being of patients is recommended.
