Zgniłe or zgnite jabłko? Or about a Certain Derivational Tendency in Polish Dialects and Its Consequences The author presents and analyses the consequences of a characteristic for Polish dialects appearance of verbal adjectives which are the continuation of former gerunds ending in ‑ły. They occur very often in Polish dialects. The author pays attention to lexical and morphological consequences of this phenomenon. They consist in separation of a formant -ły that can create words from a great number of derivatives of an adjectival meaning not only on a verbal basis (e.g. przeszpiegły, wartły). Finally they also consist in the appearance of derivational synonymy. Functional character of adjectives ending in -ły enables their interchangeable action with other adverbial words ending in -ny, -ony, -any, ‑ty of resultant effect.
