…Domos Pauperculas, Cellulas et Ecclesis Parvulas : as fidelidades dos primeiros observantes em Portugal a Francisco «arquitecto» olhadas ao espelho dourado do século XVI
Abstract
Against the backdrop of the observant reform of Portugal in the XIV-XV centuries, viewed through seventeenth-century sources, especially the "chronicles" of Friar Manuel da Esperança and Friar Fernando da Soledade, this study draws attention to the establishment of several Franciscan houses throughout the period in question, as well as to the characteristics of the chosen places (almost always peripheral to urban centers), emphasizing the fidelity to the guidelines of the founder, Francisco de Assis, which reflected the choice for life forms very close to eremitism.
