The aim of this paper is to reflect upon the perspectives of extension of the preventive possibilities, concerning the impacts of current ways of living and working on the health of work populations. This reflection is based on the ergologic approach, on its efforts to understand human work derived from the concept of activity. Placing ourselves in the contemporary global socio-technical context, we start from the empirical realization of the inefficiency of present preventive practices and guide ourselves through the hypothesis that the hegemonic research models of the relations between work and health are insufficient, considering the complexity of the problem. Throughout this journey, we try to contemplate the relations between health management at work and knowledge construction about work. Our conclusions point to the necessary incorporation of the subjects of work in the construction of the knowledge required for comprehending the singularity of work situations in diverse socio-technical configurations, as a condition for attaining preventive efficiency.
