Suportul social pentru democrație
Abstract
The interest of this approach is to determine the extent to which the Romanian population supports the governing democratic regime. With this view, after dealing briefly first with the general theme of democratization, we will insist on the results of the comparative research conducted during 1990-1998, which reveal a high degree of acceptance of democracy in the Romanian society. Having in mind that the adoption and assertion of democracy can not be imagined without the help of the population, one must also consider true that the responsibility for non-fulfilment (and which is worse, for the possible failure to consolidate democracy) belongs, first, to the institutions of the state, to the politicians and officials asked to act in agreement with the requirements of this system and to associate civil society to the act of governing. The manner of achieving the economic transition proves to have a capital importance, more precisely the correctness and the balance between profit and losses, avoiding the benefits just for particular groups, while the others bear the coats.
