This text focuses on neglect in the area of critical listening education, using educa- tion in the United States as an example. Critical listening is a skill indispensable for, among others: critical thinking, communication-in-dialogue, and also for rational participation in institutions of a democratic society. The didactic of philosophy could take upon itself the initiation in critical listening. However, this is not the case. One of the reasons for this state of affairs seems to be the lack of a coherent philosophical theory of critical listening.
