The Social Representations of Ageing in young adults
Abstract
Abstract: This study aims to show that Old age is a complex and multifaceted concept, is often associated with decline and dependency. However, the experience of aging varies significantly across individuals and cultures. This study aims to explore young adults' perceptions of old age and the factors that shape these perceptions. Through a qualitative research approach, specifically semi-structured interviews, this study delves into the social representations of old age held by young adults aged 25-40. The analysis focuses on identifying the core and peripheral elements of these representations, as well as the influence of cultural, social, and personal factors. By examining how young adults construct and interpret the concept of old age, this study contributes to a deeper understanding of ageism and intergenerational relationships. It highlights the need to challenge negative stereotypes and promote positive images of aging, ultimately fostering a more inclusive and age-friendly society.
