In January 1978, the Sex Pistols were to continue their American tour with three concerts in Belgium. These were cancelled at the last minute after their split. The testimonies published in the press and the legend rewritten a few years later, however, reveal the emergence of a moral panic of which the primary sources (police archives, municipal archives and witnesses of the time) do not keep any trace. This ambivalence makes it possible to reflect more generally on the reception of new fashions and the construction of taste, which simultaneously reveal the enthusiasm of specialized newspapers, the indifference of public authorities and the sometimes timid reception of the public.
