Concise approach for the synthesis of 1,7-dioxaspiro[5.5]undecane, a Dacus oleae pheromone

Abstract

A simple and efficient route for the synthesis of 1,7-dioxaspiro[5.5]undecane (Olean), a major component of the male sex attractant of the pheromone blend of the olive fruit fly has been accomplished in six steps starting from 1,4-butanediol. This is the first report on the synthesis of olive fruit fly by means of bis-alkylation of TosMIC.
