Does social movements exist?

Abstract

The author's proposal focuses on the theoretical discussion regarding social movements, in order to add new perspectives. According to her perspective, this phenomenom can be analysed considering two elements: social integration and constitution of social subjets. After reviewing the emergence of the so called ''social movements'', she addreses important subjects such as identity and motivation. Finally, she concludes that the concept is normally used to describe a more complex reality, which can impoverish social analysis intead of provinding new content.
