« De un yo plural y de una sola sombra » : autofiguración y retrato en El hacedor
Abstract
This article explores the process of self-figuration that Borges develops in El hacedor (1960), which allows him to create a literary figure named Borges, always dynamic and paradoxical. By combining some of the ideas proposed by the most important critics that have studied this process (Molloy, Lefere, Premat and Alonso Estenoz, among others) with a literary analysis of the most relevant texts in the book, this article aims to explore two different modalities, two different forms of self-figuration.On the one hand, we find a figure explicitly called Borges or a subject built upon some references that link him to Borges´s life. On the other, one where the figure portrays himself by portraying others, but also where it has to represent itself by dealing with the Other as different from the self, that is to say, as a limit to the self-figuration process.
