Frontières et ponts : anthropologie de l’éducation chez les Amérindiens de l’Amazonie franco-brésilienne (Guyane française-Brésil)
Abstract
Based on a comparison of school education processes among Amerindian populations in the border region of French Guiana and Brazil, and in particular, among Wayãpi Amerindians, this article seeks to show their contribution to the dynamics of identity categorization and otherness of these groups. The comparison allows us to analyze the different strategies of Amerindian communities in the face of French and Brazilian national educational policies, as well as the effects of these policies on their actions. The difficulty in balancing Amerindian knowledge and forms of transmission with those of educational institutions is an example of their consequences.
