Abstract

In Undated Stories Machado de Assis offers an inventory of social representations about romantic relationships. The objective of this article is to analyze the short story entitled « Admiral’s Night » in dialogue with other short stories present in the same volume. I seek to understand how “Admiral’s Night” offers contrasting visions about fidelity, treason, marriage, desire, etc.
