Tumor Cells and Blood Group Discrepancy: Transfusion Medicine Perspective
Abstract
Blood group discrepancies pose a significant challenge to safe transfusion practices. Determining the patient’s blood group and issuing group-compatible blood components is essential for patient safety. The patient’s clinical history is of utmost importance in resolving blood group discrepancies. The association of blood groups with various disease states has been well documented in the literature. Malignant conditions are also associated with blood group changes. In solid organ malignancies, excessive blood group substances produced by the tumor cells can lead to blood group discrepancies. Few such cases had been reported in the literature. In this report, we have discussed a case of ovarian tumor mass with blood group discrepancy.
