Nursing Care Perceptions of Patients Treated During the COVID-19 Pandemic
Abstract
Aim: This study was conducted to determine how inpatients perceived nursing care during the COVID-19 pandemic. Method: The research was carried out in a descriptive design. The participants consisted of inpatients with a probable/definite diagnosis of COVID-19 between 10 August and 10 October 2020 in a public hospital in Istanbul. While calculating the sample, a sample of the known universe was calculated based on the hospital's two-month average number of patients (N=440), and it was determined that at least 205 patients should be included in the sample. The data were collected from 250 patients who volunteered to participate in the study, using the 'Patient Information Form' and the 'Patient Perception of Nursing Care Scale.' Results: In the study, the participants' patient perception of nursing care scale score was high at 70.05+-0.51. No statistically significant difference was found between the average scores of nursing care perception according to patients' gender, age, marital status, education level, employment status, profession, previous hospitalization status, and chronic illness. However, there is a significant difference between the scores of the patients that had a companion with them. Considering the distribution of the patients having companions in the hospital, it was seen that the patients who did not have a companion with them had a higher perception of nursing care. Conclusion: It was determined that the patients participating in the study were highly satisfied with nursing care.
