This study aimed to identify the use of the Internet in cataloguing and classification processes in libraries and information centers at Sultan Qaboos University. To achieve this descriptive analytical approach adopted for collecting valuable data on the subject from all cataloguers and specialists in the university. Important findings of the study include that cataloging and classification staff possess high skills in the use of Internet (88.9%), and computer applications (72.2%). Moreover, the most electronic tools used by the staff of cataloguing are the second edition of Anglo-American Cataloging Rules, and Library of Congress classification scheme. In addition to other electronic instruments and library catalogs available on the World Wide Web such as online catalogs, and thesaurus. The study also concluded that the Internet has contributed greatly to the quality of items catalogued, which is reflected in the quality the library catalogs and accuracy of information retrieval processes.
