Digital currencies and their role in enhancing competitiveness indicators: international experiences and future vision

Abstract

This study aims to determine the impact of using central bank digital currencies in enhancing competitiveness indicators, and to know the future determinants of digital currencies, especially after the technological transformations that have brought about important changes in the economy. Therefore, this study focused on explaining the impact of technological progress on the emergence of digital currencies, studying their role in enhancing competitiveness, and then determining the future vision of central bank digital currencies. The study followed the inductive and deductive approaches by studying some international experiences and identifying the general foundations. The research concluded that digital currencies have an important role in enhancing competitiveness, and that their future vision requires working on the determinants that ensure their success. Therefore, central banks should play a greater role in light of the digital transformation in the world, and work to develop the role of digital currencies in enhancing international competitiveness indicators
