Abstract
The problem of Brazilian identity has permeated the entire universe of anthropologi-cal concerns of our intellectuals in the late nineteenth and fi rst half of the twentieth century. And, of course, the music, one of the most signifi cant cultural events idiosyncratic of our people could not get out of this issue. Th is article seeks to relate the cultural identity of a people through music.
