Emprego, crescimento e desenvolvimento econômico: notas sobre um caso regional
Abstract
This article approaches a case concerned to regions with low economical dynamics, which face historical development handicap regarding labour market. It refers to the northern part of Rio de Janeiro State, so-called Fluminense Northern, or NF. In the early 70s of past century, indeed, the tradicional economical sector went through a successful modernization process. Today, NF appears as responsible for over 80% of oil produced in Brazil. Also recently, the local budgets of the municípios (counties) have strongly increased due to royalties received as compensatory rights. Nevertheless, NF has remained as an outstanding poor region with a recurrent employment problem. To deal with such questions within the scope of the complex relations between economical growth and development, the author analyses the role of regionalism in the reproduction of social inequalities in NF.
