Antibiotic residues in raw cow’s milk: Evaluation of the situation in West Algerian region

Introduction-The inappropriate use of antibiotics in veterinary medicine for therapeutic or prophylactic purposes for dairy cows can be the cause of the presence of their residues in milk. In this study, we are taking stock of the antibiotic residues found in raw cow’s milk in the wilaya of Oran. Methods-We carried out a survey with 30 practicing veterinarians and an analysis of 50 milk samples, from the two sales channels, using the Delvotest® T kit for the detection of antibiotic residues in milk. Results-The survey revealed that the main animal pathologies treated with antibiotics are mastitis (35.4%) and metritis (25.6%). our results also revealed that failure to comply with the withdrawal period (28.7%) and poor practice of dry-off treatment (21.3%) were the main errors made by breeders when treating cattle. by antibiotics. analysis of 50 samples of raw cow’s milk, showed that 30% of samples collected from farms and 33.33% of those from outlets contain antibiotic residues.
