AN EVALUATION ON TEXTILES AND WEAVING TOOLS MENTIONED IN KIRSEHIR TURKUS
Abstract
Folk literature which has an important place in folk culture studies has a rich diversity in our country. "Türkü", which is a kind of verse sung with a melody in anonymous Turkish folk literature, is played and sung in different forms in accordance with regions. Etymologically, the origin of the word “Türkü”, meaning “folk song” in Turkish, is the word “Türk”. Türkü means unique to Türks. The byword “Those who want to understand Turks should listen to türkü” of Turkish Folk Music Artist Şemsî Yastıman from Kırşehir, explains this. In anonymous folk literature, türkü that are sung with a melody, written with syllabic meter and composed with folk melodies are defined as koşuk. Anatolian folk has expressed all their pain, happiness, love, opinions of the world and lifestyles with türküs. Türküs take different names in accordance with their regions, topics and melodies. So, türküs have different varieties such as hoyrat, oturak, kırık hava, uzun hava. If türküs are examined in accordance with their topics, they consist of ten different groups such as lullabies, children’s ballads, nature, love, heroism and soldiery, ceremony, work ballads, interactive ballads, death and game ballads. In the lyrics of türküs with these different topics, the mention of textiles which are a different part of the folk culture cannot be denied. In this article, textiles mentioned in anonymous or singer türküs of Kırşehir which is the center of türküs in middle Anatolia are examined, and it is intended to trace the Kırşehir regional textiles in the türküs. During the examination, over 60 türküs that contain the name of a textile were encountered. These textiles are addressed by separating them into five groups such as cloth name (yazma, oyalı yazma, şalvar, cepken etc.), fabric name (aba, kadife, basma, saten etc.), semi-finished product name (iplik, urgan etc.), raw material name (yün, ipek, keten etc.) and weaving tool name (gücü, ıstar, hana, darak, sındı, tefe etc.). It is determined that regional textiles which cannot be encountered in present time are mentioned, and even described in "türküs".
