Abstract An educator portfolio is a valuable accompaniment to a curriculum vitae, providing faculty with a systematic and thorough way to document their scholarly teaching and educational scholarship. This 12-minute narrated presentation describes the rationale and theoretical basis for development of an educator portfolio with suggestions for essential elements and strategies for building one. The presentation can be used at a group presentation or made available for individual use (e.g., posted on a website, embedded in course management system). Also included are an instructor's guide and an educator portfolio template. This presentation on educator portfolios was developed to assist faculty in the development of their portfolios and to support senior faculty who are guiding mentees in portfolio development. The authors have used this presentation at their institution in several ways, including as an introductory activity for a workshop, as an independent learning activity, and as a follow-up opportunity following a workshop.
