Review of: Dergacheva, M. I., & Sukhotina, L. N. (Eds.). (2016). 22-ia armiia: ot pervykh do pobednykh dnei Velikoi Otechestvennoi voiny. Vospominaniia uchastnikov boevykh deistvii [The 22nd Army: From the Outbreak to the Victorious Days of the Great Patriotic War. Memoirs of Combatants]. Yekaterinburg: Ural University Press. This review examines the content and structure of a collection of essays and memoirs named 22nd Army: From the Outbreak to the Victorious Days of the Great Patriotic War, and edited by M. I. Dergacheva and L. N. Sukhotina. The purpose of this review is to determine the value of the publication for the study of World War II, the history of the Urals, and the region’s role in the military action between 1941 and 1945. The reviewer concludes that the book of memoirs is a very useful source for the history of the initial period of the Great Patriotic War. The methodology of the review complies with its purpose: the data of the essays and memoirs are compared with those found in Soviet and German documents, reference books, and other publications on the subject. This approach allows the author to identify and highlight the advantages and point out a number of significant deficiencies in the text reviewed requiring correction or commentaries.
