This paper discusses some of the issues raised by the recent edition of the first book of Isidore of Seville’s Etymologies on grammar. Particular attention is paid to the relationship between the Liber glossarum and the Etymologies’ Spanish manuscript tradition (the so-called γ-family). A detailed analysis of this relationship leads us to postulate a division within this family that would reflect the final adjustments made by Braulio’s successor, Taio of Zaragoza.
