El Museu del Disseny de Barcelona: el patrimoni, un recurs al servei del coneixement, el debat i els reptes socials / The Barcelona Design Museum: Heritage, a Resource for the Service of Knowledge, Debate and Social Challenges
Abstract
El Museu del Disseny de Barcelona és un museu de les arts de l’objecte i el disseny, que reuneix les col·leccions dels antics museus de les Arts Decoratives, Ceràmica, Tèxtil i d’Indumentària i de les Arts Gràfiques, sota un nou projecte museològic comú i amb una museografia flexible. La integració de les col·leccions històriques d’arts decoratives i les arts d’autor contemporànies amb les col·leccions de disseny dels segles XX-XXI constitueix la seva singularitat. El denominador comú de les col·leccions és el concepte del disseny, entès de manera àmplia (idea, mètode projectual, innovació, procés de fabricació...). Avui Barcelona i Disseny són dos termes indissociables, atès que el disseny és un valor clau per a la cultura, l’economia i la difusió internacional de la ciutat. A més, el seu Centre de Documentació aplega una biblioteca dedicada a les arts de l’objecte i el disseny i un arxiu històric on es conserva la documentació -arxius personals o d’empresa, de dissenyadors, artesans o industrials generalment representats en les col·leccions-, amb l’objectiu de poder reconstruir el procés de conceptualització i producció dels objectes que es conserven en els seus fons. Les col·leccions objectuals i el Centre de Documentació són els pilars del Museu. Gràcies a la complicitat amb els nombrosos sectors relacionats és un centre patrimonial en creixement constant i una plataforma d’encontre dels sectors del disseny i les arts de l’objecte, amb vocació educadora i de generar coneixement a l’abast de tots els públics. / The Design Museum of Barcelona is a museum devoted to the arts of the object and design. Its collections are the result of merging those of the former museums of Decorative Arts, Ceramics, Textiles and Clothing, and Graphic Art to create a united, flexibly-organised, new museum project. The singular nature of the new Museum lies in its integration of historic decorative arts and contemporary auteur arts collections with design heritage from the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. The common denominator in the collections is the concept of design, understood in a broad sense (idea, project method, innovation, manufacturing process and so on). Today, Barcelona and design are inseparably linked, as design is a key value in the city’s culture, economy and international promotion. The Museum’s Documentation Centre also houses a library devoted to the arts of the object and design, as well as a historic archive that conserves documentation –personal and company devoted to designers, craftspeople and industrialists that are, generally speaking, represented in the collections. The aim is to reconstruct the process of designing and producing the objects conserved in the Museum collections. The collections of objects and the Documentation Centre are the main pillars of the Museum as a whole. Alliances established with many related sectors have also helped to make this a constantly-growing heritage centre and a platform for encounters between different branches of design and the arts of the object, all in pursuit of the mission of educating and generating knowledge for all.
