Publications of works of Olha Kobylianska in the book stock of the Andrey Sheptytsky national museum library
Abstract
The purpose of the article is to provide a comprehensive look at the legacy of the Ukrainian writer Olha Kobylianska, which is kept in the Andrey Sheptytsky National Museum Library in Lviv; perform an in-depth analysis and characterize each of these publications, highlight the importance of their cover design; emphasize the features of graphic details and illustrations, as well as find out their role in reflecting the content, topics, and individual images of the literary texts themselves. The methodological basis for achieving the purpose of the paper comprises the use of descriptive, bibliographical, source studies, art analysis, and comparative research methods. The scientific novelty of this study lies in an attempt to consider the basic principles and specifics of the book design of the printed literary heritage of Olha Kobylianska using the samples from the Museum library collection as an example. Conclusions. The article state the importance and value of the publications of Kobylianska’s works in the book stock of the Andrey Sheptytsky National Museum in Lviv, which hold substantial artistic significance, taking into account the nature of their design and artistic content; the rich illustrative materials in the books examined were analyzed and their exceptional and often crucial role in the visualization and comprehension of verbal texts was defined; interesting printing techniques of book design, peculiarities of printing, and individual features of the illustrators’ signature style were outlined; it was noted that the presented Museum book stock of the Kobylianska’s publications provides interesting material for further literary and art analysis studies.
