National adaptation plans offer strategic frameworks that enable countries to integrate adaptation action with sustainable development agendas. However, the process lacks multi-actor coordination that incorporates the values of diverse interest groups, presenting obstacles to fostering inclusive development decisions. This commentary proposes incorporating IPCC perspectives on climate resilient development pathways into the national adaptation planning process to align sustainable development ambition with adaptation practice.
