The EU–UN: in Search of Strategic Partnership for Strengthening Global Security and Crisis Management

Abstract

The author studies the EU policy on the UN peacekeeping operations and problems of development of partnership with the UN in early warning of crisis situations and crisis management. Special attention is devoted to analysis of basic models of the EU participation in the UN peacekeeping after Lisbon Treaty. The author envisages that the EU would continue to develop the structural strategic partnership with the UN in light of the recent Action for Peace keeping (A4P) and the UN Declaration on mutual commitments on peacekeeping ( September 2018). The search by the EU of the optimal models of its partnership with the UN is linked to the policy of the EU tandem (France- Germany) on strengthening European sovereignty and its defense capabilities.
