The article deals with the use of various similes as a means of expression in the structure of instrumental-subject impersonal sentences in the modern Russian language. Impersonality in such sentences is expressed in the presence of a component in the instrumental case which combines the object-instrumental and subject meanings. The semantics of such sentences is generally a spontaneous action aimed at the object, carried out using a certain instrument, thus modifying the state of the environment or a person’s physical or mental condition. The predicate simile, the simile with instrumental component, the comparative construction, and comparative clauses make it possible to add extra meanings to a sentence. The method used in the study is the structural-semantic analysis, the description of the sample sentences starts with the form and ends with the meaning.
