Sergei Dovlatov's prose has an important place in the Third Wave of Russian Emigre Literature. In recent years, the intense interest and great acclaim of author’s highly individual writing style, the style in which the imagination and the truth are intertwined, necessitates a scrupulous examination of his works. The purpose of this research is to explore the role and importance of rhetorical figures in the technique of compensating the fictional emptiness with strong emotional expression, which is one of the main features of the author's writing style. To achieve this purpose, the types, features, functions and roles of the rhetorical figures commonly used in the author's works are analyzed from a linguistic perspective. The main methods of research are methods of contextual, comparative, component analysis, methods of decoding. Comprehension of the ideological content of the works studied in this article is carried out on the basis of the universal principle of the hermeneutic circle, based on the interconnection of parts and the whole. The practical significance of the work is that the data presented in the study has a potential to be used as a source material in Russian Literary Language and courses in Russian Stylistics and to contribute to the works carried out in this field.
