The impact of Big-five personality traits on investment intentions: Study on generation Y

The aim of this paper is to examines the empirical relationship between personality traits attitude towards financial risk, mediated by attitude towards financial risk of gen Y Vietnamese individual investors. Based on the testing of a theoretical model with a set of data collected from 277 investors. The results of analyzing structural equation modeling show that neuroticism has a positive impact on attitude towards financial risk, the factors of agreeableness, conscientiousness and openness to experience have a negative impact on attitude towards financial risk, the relationship between extraversion and attitude towards financial risk is not supported. Specifically, attitude towards financial risk has a direct negative impact on investment intentions. From this conclusion, the paper may be useful for analysts or finance companies to better understand the behavior of individual finance investment of gen Y Vietnamese.
