Traditional teaching methods are often relatively difficult to meet the diverse learning needs of students. For the status quo of vocal music teaching, this paper promotes the development of vocal music teaching in colleges and universities through the use of VR technology. Systematically analyzing the relationship between vocal music and virtual reality technology and its characteristics, the interrelation between the two is summarized. According to the principle of camera imaging to collect samples, after using the SIFT algorithm to detect and match the feature points of the collected samples so as to determine the spatial location of these feature points, realize the camera calibration, and obtain the sparse point cloud. The obtained sparse point cloud model is stored in PLY format files, and the PLY format files are imported into the Unity3D platform for color rendering to complete the construction of the vocal performance scene. The effect of vocal music teaching combined with VR technology was analyzed using statistical methods. The data show that the vocal music teaching mode combined with VR technology (ANOVA value 22.65) is significantly better than the traditional teaching mode (ANOVA value 27.85) in terms of the accuracy of students’ vocal performance speed, in addition to the same in terms of the comparison of the mastery of vocal music knowledge and skills. This study improves the traditional oral teaching method of music and traditional vocal music teaching mode and also breaks the limitations of time and space, providing more practice opportunities for the majority of music learners.
