the role of brain/behavioral systems and morningness-eveningness types in predicting students behavioral disorders
Abstract
Behavioral disorder refers to a situation in which a child’s behavior does not correspond with his/her emotional and psychological age, and it has always been associated with biological and personality factors. The aim of this study was to investigate the role of brain/behavioral systems and morningness-eveningness types in predicting behavioral disorders in elementary school students. This was a correlational study, and the sample consisted of 160 elementary school students in fourth, fifth, and sixth grades, which were selected by cluster sampling. To collect data, Behavioral Inhibition/Activation Systems Scale (BIS/BAS) of Carver and White, Horne & Östberg's Morningness-Eveningness Questionnaire , and the Rutter Parental Questionnaire were used, and the collected data were analyzed by the Pearson correlation coefficient and Multiple Regression Analysis. The results showed that behavioral disorders have a negative correlation with sensitivity to reward (r= -0/45, p<0/01), drive (from Behavioral Activation System) (r= -0/52, p<0/01), and morningness -eveningness (r= -0/28, p<0/01), but have a positive correlation with fun seeking (r= 0/36, p<0/01) and sensitivity to punishment (r= 0/59, p<0/01). Furthermore, Regression Analysis showed that Behavioral Inhibition System can predict children's behavioral disorders.
