HOW THE EUROPEAN UNION SEEKS TO PROTECT CONSUMER CITIZENS IN TIMES OF BIG DATA
Abstract
Big Data technologies produced a huge disruption, not just about business models related to consumers relationships, but also concerning legal protection of consumers and data protection of citizens in general. Both at the European Union and at its Member States, this disruption regarding previous balances of interests and rights led to a need of rethinking the regulations and statutes of Consumer Law as well as to an enhanced relevance of Data Protection Law, namely with the new centre of its microsystem, the General Data Protection Regulation. This new reality is analysed from the perspective of the Laws enforced in Portugal.
