Grass and Concrete Regenerating Amsterdam's Westelijke Tuinsteden
Abstract
The Westeliike Tuinsteden, literally the "western garden cities," are suburbs of Amsterdam built in the 1950s and 1960s. They are counted among the leading successful examples of postwar urban design.1 The international appreciation for them in academic circles, however, is for removed from the day-to-day reality of urban restructuring.
