The academic formation should contemplate during its entireperiod, the incentive for the students to participate in projects about scientific initiation, as well as to promote knowledge and critical thinkingthrough the scientific production. Scientific research contributes to the student's development, preparing him / her in a qualified way for the job market. In this sense, the objective of this research was to verify the students' perception regarding the relevance of scientific production in their academic and professional education. As specific objectives, the work aimed to investigate the students' understanding of initiation and scientific production, as well as to assess whether scientific production contributes to the professional formation of the student. The research is classified as quantitative, descriptive and bibliographic. It was used the technique of field survey or survey, consisting of the application of a questionnaire, with closed questions, for students in the management area of a higher education institution. The sample had 40 students who represented 65% of the enrolled students. Descriptive statistical technique was used for data analysis. It was concluded that the respondents did not show understanding about the undergraduate program, however, they affirmed knowledge about the scientific production, as well as its relevance to the academic and professional formation.
