TO THE QUESTION OF THE STUDY OF THE POPULATION OF THE VOLGA-VYATKA REGION DURING THE YEARS OF THE GREAT PATRIOTIC WAR (HISTORIOGRAPHIC REVIEW)

Abstract

The article provides a historiographical overview of historical and historical-demographic studies of the Volga-Vyatka region of the RSFSR during the Great Patriotic War. The authors note that the study of the problems of the rear population in 1941-1945 is an urgent research task. During the Great Patriotic War there are structural changes in the number and composition of the population of the Volga-Vyatka region (8% of the population of the RSFSR), as well as its resettlement. The attempt to generalize and analyze the research base available in the historical literature on this topic determines the scientific novelty of the publication. Historians identify three mutually determined areas of research: generalized works on the history of the Great Patriotic War; studies affecting the area of demographic processes during the war years; studies on the history of the republics and regions of the Volga-Vyatka region in 1941-1945. In accordance with the problem-chronological approach, in each «block» the stages of research, scientific problems are highlighted, the most significant works are cited. The authors come to the following conclusions. The available historical literature on the history of the population of the Volga-Vyatka region is extensive, covers many aspects of the life of the population during the war period, and sets the vector for further research. Works on similar topics, published in different years, provide an opportunity to objectively and multifacetedly study the subject under study. However, in general, there are no comprehensive studies of the problems of the population of the Volga-Vyatka region during the Great Patriotic War.
