Growing fruit and vegetables in cities and towns is increasingly recognized as a potentially important contributor to local food security. Expansion of urban horticulture could be a mechanism to increase the production of healthy, nutritious crops for the growing urban population while simultaneously providing additional benefits for urban dwellers. However, it is crucial to ensure equity in access to land to grow food for all urban communities and to support development of skills and knowledge needed to successfully grow.
