The article is dedicated to the problem of self-presentation of the emperor Augustus as Greek hero Orestes. The author analyzes representations about Augustus as Orestes, both supporters of the emperor, and his opponents. The author does attempt chronologically to correlate beginnings and decline of the cult of Orestes to political and ideological actions of the first Roman emperor.
