The urban labyrinth of José Revueltas
Abstract
On these essay José Revueltas’ aesthetic ideas about the creation of characters, applied on the novel Los días terrenales (1949), are associated with the deformation and monstrosity in the ancient indigenous art, refered at El arte o de la monstruosidad by Edmundo O’Gorman, and at Cosmogonía antigua Mexicana by Rubén Bonifaz Nuño. Reference is also made to the literary criticism poured on the work of Revueltas, and the adversity he had to face, since the Mexican State judged him as a seditious intellectual, and at the same time some leftist militants considered him a petit bourgeois writer, a revisionist intellectual.
