Del Génesis al Apocalipsis en la literatura latinoamericana

Abstract

In this essay, I seek to highlight some works of Latin American literature, characterized by the incorporation of themes from the biblical tradition, through the phenomena of intertextuality and rewriting. I will consider, especially, the structure and theme of the apocalyptic genre as an imaginative source of millenarianism, a trend so present in the ideological conceptions of the conquerors and evangelizers of America, which set the standard for literary production from the time of Christopher Columbus to the present, shaping a scenario of catastrophes and promises as a sign of a culture marked by the end of the Old World and the beginning of a New.
