Human capital to come. Death and rebirth of a theory?

Abstract

This critical note explores the main topics discussed in the volume by Phillip Brown, Hugh Lauder and Sin Yi Cheung, authors of The Death of Human Capital? Its Failed Promise and How to Renew It in an Age of Disruption published by Oxford University Press in 2020. The text forms part of the vast amount of literature examining the theory of human capital from a critical perspective. However, not all of the arguments put forward are adequately substantiated, highlighting that there still lacks a systematic and global approach which, in addition to analysing and criticising the theory of human capital, constitutes its valid resolution and overcoming.
