On the way of development of literacy and primary education in Lesak, the important places are occupied by the monastery and school in Vracevo, as well as the church and school in Drenova. Regard to this is also the Theological teacher training faculty in Prizren, which since the end of the 19th century has been training competent teachers to work in the area of Old Serbia and beyond. The full momentum and massive influence of education on the people was prevented by the prolonged period of slavery under the Turks, frequent wars and periods of economic poverty as their inevitable consequence. The advent of peace and favourable conditions of life have revived the efforts to open schools and work on obtaining elementary literacy of Serbian children. Primary school in Lesak was named after a teacher Stana Bacanin (1913-1943) who came from a prominent priestly family Bacanin settled to Vracevo form Montenegro. A current school building was opened in 1956. Today it is a modern institution in terms of both appearance and equipment of buildings and in terms of assembly and employment of highly skilled personnel of different areas of classroom teaching in nearby villages. Here, also, is a problem of reducing the number of children in remote areas, so that, unfortunately, in some areas it led to the closure of schools, which once brought up and educated a large number of pupils.
