The variegated mud-loving beetles (Coleoptera: Heteroceridae) of the Republic of Dagestan, Russia

The article contains an annotated list of variegated mud-loving beetles (Coleoptera: Heteroceridae) of the Republic of Dagestan, which includes 10 species: Augyles flavidus Rossi, 1794, A. obliteratus (Kiesenwetter, 1843), A. sericans (Kiesenwetter, 1843), A. turanicus (Reitter, 1887), Heterocerus fossor Kiesenwetter, 1843, H. flexuosus Stephens, 1828, H. heydeni Kuwert, 1890, H. parallelus Gebler, 1830, H. fenestratus (Thunberg, 1784), H. obsoletus Curtis, 1828. Augyles sericans is recorded for the region for the first time. The fauna of Heteroceridae of Dagestan is the most diverse in the Northern Caucasus (in total 15 species). The Western Caucasian fauna of Heteroceridae contains 8 species. Data on distribution of species in the Caucasus are added after the last Catalogue of Palaearctic Coleoptera: all listed here species of the genus Augyles are distributed in the Northern Caucasus (not only in Transcaucasia). The most of species were collected in arid lowlands and foothills areas in the northern part of the republic: lower reaches of Terek and Kuma rivers, Karagaily Kum sands, the Caspian Sea coast and islands.
